iHR day is a collaboration between Horizon Health - Saint John Zone, the University of New Brunswick - Saint John Campus, the New Brunswick Community College - Saint John Campus and Dalhousie Medicine New Brunswick.

The day features oral and poster presentations by health researchers from these four institutions, an outstanding keynote speaker, and a great opportunity to discuss health research with your colleagues.

Medical Marijuana – the science behind the stories

Dr. Mark Ware, vice-chair of task force on cannabis





Dr. Ware, who is also an associate professor of Family Medicine and Anesthesia at McGill University and a scientist in the Brain Repair and Integrative Neuroscience (BRaIN) Program of the Research Institute of the MUHC (RI-MUHC), has been studying the use, safety and effectiveness of medical cannabis for the last 16 years. He is also involved in population-based studies on the impact of pain and the evaluation of complementary therapies in pain and symptom management.

iHR Abstract Submission Guidelines

iHR (Interprofessional Health Research) Day is an annual, collaborative event that offers students, faculty, and professionals the opportunity to highlight current research in health-related areas. The proceedings are coordinated by a committee of representatives from four regional partners: Horizon Health, New Brunswick Community College (NBCC), Dalhousie Medicine New Brunswick (DMNB), and University of New Brunswick Saint John (UNBSJ).

The general iHR Day theme is collaboration in health-related areas. Submissions are welcome from all areas of health research.

NOTE: Abstracts will be considered for either type of presentation:
Oral Presentations: A limited number of oral presentation sessions are scheduled during iHR Day. Oral presentations are 10 minutes with an additional 5 minutes allocated for questions.
Facilitated Poster Presentations: Poster presentations will be facilitated and presented for display and discussion during iHR Day. Presenters must attend the particular facilitated session assigned to their poster. Specific times will be given upon acceptance of the Abstract.

Applicant Requirements

Submissions are invited detailing completed (or near-complete) health-related research projects from any of the following:

 • Faculty, students (undergrad and graduate), and clinicians from all partner organizations

 • Local, national, and international research-fund recipients who wish to present the results of their research

 • Participants of Postgraduate Residency Programs in health services with research projects as part of their curriculum

 • DMNB Research in Medicine students who have completed their research

Abstract Requirements

Abstracts must be received no later than Midnight Monday, February 13th, 2017. Abstracts may be e-mailed to Katie.Holden@HorizonNB.ca. An e-mail confirming receipt will be issued.

Abstracts should be submitted using the iHR Day Abstract Submission Form. NOTE: If you have any technical difficulty using the form, please contact Katie at Katie.Holden@HorizonNB.ca. Word documents may be accepted, provided all the information requested by the form is included.

The following criteria apply to Abstracts for both posters and presentations:

 1. Abstracts are limited to max 500 words.

 2. Abstracts need to include the title of the presentation and the names, institution, and designation for each of the investigators. A contact e-mail must be included.

 3. All Abstracts must include the following sections: Background, Methods, Results, Discussion. Abstracts are text only, no figures or tables.

 4. Abstracts for all Oral and Poster presentations will be distributed to attendees on iHR Day.
